Summer Update

AbacoAgent.com is pleased to report that the island is still bustling despite the rainy weather we've been having. Despite the rain many events have taken place.
On July 3, the "Cheeseburger in Paradise" Beach Party on Fiddle Cay kicked off Regatta Time.
"Abaco Rage" had taken first in the Class A races in the Long Island Regatta held on June 2-3 at Salt Pond. Unfortunately, this noble vessel got caught between a rock and a hard place after one of the Regatta races but suffered only minor injuries. "Sea Turtle" was the overall winner taking first in the series in the PHRF class.
Man-O War Cay held it's annual all-day Bahamas Independence celebration on July 8th. The Bahamas is 33 years old this year.
The North Abaco Summer Festival and Power Boat Races will be held on July 20th-22nd. It will be a day of fun, food and entertainment.

Summer Action

There is a lot going on in Abaco these days. Most important of all, to the great relief of everyone concerned, the Marsh Harbour airport will not be closed while a new runway is built.
Treasure Cay hosted the 23rd Billfish Tournament from June 11th through the 16th. A total of 43 billfish were caught and released and 3 were boated.
The Conch Pearl Gallery recently introduced artists Michael and Anyes Adams. Mrs. Adams is a photographer and Mr. Adams is a sculptor.
Recycling is moving forward in the Abacos as the Friends of the Environment has formed a relationship with Everett Rolle of Caribbean Recycling in Nassau where Abaco aluminum cans will be shipped for recycling.
The second annual Bahamas Billfish Championship Tournament luncheon and art auction was held this year on June 19th at Government House in Marsh Harbour. It was organized by the “People to People” program and its purpose was to give the non-fishing spouses of the competors in the Bahamas Billfish Blast a taste of Bahamian culture and an opportunity to meet Bahamian people. The tournatment has taken place annually since 1973.
The 31st Regatta Time in Abaco will take place July 3rd -11th. This event does not just attract sailors, but is a great social event for all with many interesting racing locales and lots of fun parties.
You only have until 1 Aug, when they will close for the season, to enjoy the pleasures of spending sometime at the Sand Bar Grill in Cherokee Sound. Whether approached by car or boat, this sublime spot is sure to captivate. The home cooked food is good, the water is at its best and there is shelling and swimiming off the nearby beach. All in all, a great way to while away a Saturday or Sunday afternoon - the only days it is open .
