Abaco Bahamas Homes and Property News

Your Abaco Agent team at Sandra Evans Real Estate Sales are pleased to see that improvments to the Marsh Harbour International Airport are about to begin. After all, this is an election year in The Bahamas! Still, we are grateful for anything which improves the airport's comfort and efficiency for our Abaco home and property owners.

The plans include an improved runway in compliance with international standards, a 60-foot high air traffic control tower, a fire station building to house the new fire truck and a new access road with increased parking. The terminal building will be expanded from it's current size of 4,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet. We know Bahamas Tourism is as pleased as The Bahamas Real Estate Association to hear of these changes. The total cost of the work will be in excess of $10 million.

An agreement has been reached between Water and Sewerage Corporation and The Abaco Club at Winding Bay for the installation of a water transmission main system to the settlement of Cherokee Sound. A distribution system will connect about 100 homes in the settlement and 16 homes in the nearby settlement of Yellow Wood. The Abaco Club at Winding Bay has partnered with the Ritz Carleton Group (a Marriott company) and we are waiting for their announcements of future development plans. Mr. Mike Brown is in charge and Sandra Evans Real Estate Sales has already had the pleasure of working with him.

Through the courtesy of Fire Chief Jay Sizemore of the St. Lucie Fire Department in Florida, Sandy Point received a fire truck. It is a good condition 1978 Ford F600 with a water tank holding 250 gallons. The Casuarina Point firefighter volunteers will assist Sandy Point in forming its own volunteer fire department and give some training on the use of the truck and on general techniques of fire fighting.

Marsh Harbour continues to improve its image. Landscaping the center of the community has changed the atmosphere of the town, making it much more of a tropical island Paradise. Our thanks goes to both Pinewoods Nursery and the Abaco District Council for their consistent efforts in making Abaco as beautiful as we know it can be.

International Coastal Clean-up Month

September is International Coastal Clean-up month so our valued associates at Friends of The Environment are organizing their annual beach clean-up. This year's theme is "Take a Day to Leave a Legacy". The Rotary Club of Abaco is a significant partner and Sandra Evans Real Estate Sales is a proud participant. In our capacity as 20-year veteran Scout Association of The Bahamas leaders, we have always done our best to join in this effort. We love the feeling of being part of the greater good.
Have a great weeknd and talk to you soon. Maybe you are interested in going on Sunday's Bird Walk. Call us for more info 242-367-2040.

A lovely day on Abaco and there are still visitors about. The buzz is that the sale of the developers' portion of the Treasure Cay Resort is still on target. No word on a completion date.

Sunrise Bay, a planned community in Marsh Harbour, has started dredging for their proposed 28 dock slips. It's first come, first served for the residents and they are going fast. Only six properties left there, too.

Wood You, the popular furniture store, has moved into the former Bella's. Lots more to choose from for you arty types.

Barbara Simmons has left her partnership at Hummingbirds and re-joined her sister at The Snack Shack on the main road to Abaco Beach Resort and Marina (also known as Boat Harbour). They do make the best hamburgers in Marsh Harbour.

A good friend, Tyrell, has moved his Back Street Grill to the former Mackerel's in Dundas Town. This venue is popular with everyone looking for a casual meal. His son is still needs a lot of treatment and expensive surgery so let's all make a point of having some conch fritters there.

Your Abaco Agent team at Sandra Evans Real Estate Sales, in conjunction with Sotheby's International Realty, Abaco Real Estate Ltd., H.G. Christie Ltd., Bahamas Realty Ltd., Paradise Realty, Graham Realty, Dupuch Realty, Abaco Estate Services and Aisle of Palm Realty, are working to bring, over to Abaco, a delegation from the Realtors Association of The Palm Beaches.

It will be a great opportunity to showcase our fine dockage and beachfront properties as well as proffer the legendary welcome of The Islands. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism is also a sponsor and we are working with the Bahama Beach Club and The Abaco Club at Winding Bay to provide even more hospitality.
